In 2005 FIFA conducted a survey, which illustrated that Pakistan had 2,975,400 football players, making Pakistan the 19th highest in the world.
To increase the potential of football, KESC has launched a grassroots campaign with a long term vision. The aim is to view Pakistan qualifying for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Championship in 2014 and to see the national team ranked in the world's top 50 countries within the next five years.
KECS had organised a talent hunt competition in June with participation of a large number of kids from five districts of Karachi (East, West, South, Central and Malir).
Fifty kids were selected from each district, which are now going to be participating in the KESC Football Youth Camp. This youth camp will be supervised by AFC qualified coaches and all the necessary kits, balls and training accessories will be provided by KESC.
The inauguration of the camp took place on 24th June, 2009 at the KMC Football Stadium; our chief guest was Jamil Gul - Chairman Sports Board and Muhammad Zabe Khan - Head of Football Advancement.
The youth camps will lead to the KESC Youth League. Every KESC youth camp will enter two teams in this league. A total of ten teams will play against each other, with a total of 45 games including home and away matches, running for three months. Out of 250 kids, 40 would be chosen to participate in KESC Academy league beginning in October. These elite 40 athletes will be picked from to develop the KESC U-13 and U-15 teams.
Muhammad Essa, Captain of National Football Team has also joined KESC and is regularly participating in all KESC football events.
