KARACHI, June 28: Karachi Electric Supply Company has condemned physical resistance on Wednesday by residents of Bhitai Colony, Korangi Crossing against removal of around 30 Illegal power connections that were being used to run water pumps. KESC demanded the government agencies to support its efforts to remove these illegal installations in view of the revenue loss and power needs of genuine consumers.
According to a survey conducted by KESC’s Task Force teams, over 30 water suction pumps were found to be operating through illegal electricity connections in Bhitai Colony and illegal hook connections in Altaf Town Korangi also. Upon the survey report, KESC launched a kunda removal drive in the area with the help of police mobile and removed about 50 kunda connections by the residents. The teams also removed three water pumps being run on illegal connections but only after removing three pumps they had to face stiff physical resistance from the local residents.
KESC said that it was astonishing to note that the illegal electricity users did not appear ashamed of committing power theft but instead came out to defend the crime. KESC asked the law enforcement agencies and local administration to provide adequate support to the kunda removal drive so as to save the power utility from losses at the hands of unscrupulous elements, who were committing injustice against the honest bill paying citizens as well.
