KESC NETWORK STABLE AMIDST HEAVY RAINS: PUBLIC ADVISED TO FOLLOW SAFETY MEASURES

KARACHI, July 27: The Karachi Electric Supply Company has asked the general public to keep away from rainwater soaked poles, fallen wires and wet switchboards, and to refrain from stepping into standing water pools, says a Press Release issued here.

The Release said that as a result of considerable investment into upgrading of power supply system during the last 20 months, the KESC's network is responding much better to the current rains as compared to previous such occasions. There was no major breakdown despite heavy downpour in the City. However, the wetness and standing rainwater could cause unexpected threats of electrocution which needed to be avoided for personal safety.

The most important precaution was to keep away from fallen wires, wet electricity poles, standing water pools and rainwater soaked switchboards and appliances which could catch electricity current unexpectedly. Secondly, the Release continued, any such incident involving a wire break or electrocution of a pole should immediately be reported to the nearest offices of KESC or to 118, and these should not be touched.

It advised the general public to avoid handling minor local faults on their own but to inform KESC maintenance network to get it fixed properly. All the unnecessary lights and appliances may be unplugged and great safety caution be applied while using the most essential electrical gadgets like iron, refrigerator, television set and computer. Childern may also be stopped from going close to standing rainwater pools and wet electricity installations, the Release added. In case of any emergency, public is advised to contact KESC immediately.

The Release expressed satisfaction over the stability and reliability of the transmission and distribution system during the ongoing heavy rains which had been revamped by preventive maintenance in the previous months.
