KESC Shocked by More than Three Dozen Incidents of Threats to Field Staff, Demands State Protection Against Miscreants

KESC SHOCKED BY MORE THAN THREE DOZEN INCIDENTS OF THREATS TO FIELD STAFF, DEMANDS STATE PROTECTION AGAINST MISCREANTS

KARACHI, July 17: Karachi Electric Supply Company has expressed great shock and condemnation of the continuing harassment of its field staff and demanded of the government to provide peaceful atmosphere to the utility’s employees in the interest of general public.

 

Over the past few weeks, more than three dozen incidents of harassment and threats to KESC teams have taken place in different areas of the City. At most places the assailants were armed with loaded guns and they used physical force to manhandle and harass KESC’s field employees.

 

These incidents occurred at Zafar Town, Marvi goth Quaidabad, Qazzafi Town, Main Quaidabad, Sharpao Colony, Dawood Chorangi, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Sector 36/B Landhi, Zaman Town Korangi, Memon Goth, Khokharapar Malir, Chakkra Goth, Roofi Spring Bungalows Scheme No. 33, Metrovile III, Alfalah Society  near C center, Mansehra Colony Landhi, Korangi Nasir Jump Area, Moinabad Landhi, Shah Faisal No 03 Alfalah, Dawood Chali Chorangi, Mominabad, Gulshan–e-Umair, Sasi Town Johar, Gul Houses Near Scheme 36, Korangi 51/A area and 50/A Area, Millat Garden Malir, Abul Hasan Asphani Road, Ajmer Garden, Gulshan Maymar and Ahsanabad.

 

On July 16, a mob snatched a maintenance vehicle No. KQ 3754 on gun point from Angora Goth, Gadap Town. The vehicle was later tracked down at Hub Chowki- Goth Haji Chatta from where it was recovered by Hub police. Same day a mob attacked BOC Malir Cantt. The attackers abused and slapped KESC staff and tore off the complaint book. Same evening, an operation team was disrupted by an unruly crowd while removing an idle 750 KVA local transformer from Taiser Town. Rangers were called and the team was released after involving politically influential persons of the area. The same night, another group of miscreants pelted BOC Gulshan-e-Hadeed with stones

 

KESC said that this rising trend of violence against public service utility needed to be arrested at all costs in order to ensure smooth functioning of routine activities which can otherwise be hampered. KESC said that the law enforcement agencies needed to provide adequate security and protection to the utility’s employees and assets.
