KESC TO CREATE "E-FORCE" OF SCHOOL KIDS

KARACHI, Feb. 16: The Karachi Electric Supply Company has launched “E-force” initiative, the School Energy Conservation Awareness Programme, under which initially over 25,000 school students from Grade I to V will be educated on electricity saving methods through talks and presentations, says a Press Release issued here.

So far a total of 28 schools have signed partnership with KESC under the “E-force” initiative. In four schools, about 800 students have been contacted by now. The KESC will arrange to instruct school children in the interpretation of electricity bills and conservation of electricity through energy-efficient use of domestic appliances. The students will be involved in exercises to monitor and reduce electricity bills in their homes by adopting energy conservation methods. During the course of this programme, “Power Champs” will be selected from each school to form a team.

The “E-force” initiative will explain and emphasize the role of awareness in the individual, the family and the community. The initiative focuses on bringing about a first-hand realization of the energy crisis in Karachi city and the country at large, through the enterprise and creativity of children.

This informal Energy Conservation Club comprising schools and school children is formed to spark off a children initiative for curbing energy-wastage through active measures, and also popularizing the importance of this mission among fellow-students. E force provides the ground for children to share and expand their understanding, and bring about a chain-reaction that can significantly reduce wastage of energy in the city. With adequate publicity, KESC will sensitize Karachi’s citizens and the spark can turn into a spreading flame of enthusiasm to protect resources and environment.

Through the awareness sessions, the children will be instructed over the importance of energy conservation, and the city’s dependence on electrical power; increasing demand for energy and limitation of resources; the enormous amount of capital, resources and manpower required to generate electricity for the city, and, impact on the environment.

The objective of E force is to create a chain reaction of spreading the benefits of reduction in power wastage and energy efficiency among the citizens of Karachi, through children as the ambassadors and agents of change.
